Eastern Delta Community
Drive-in mokoro trips, using traditional wooden dugout canoes. Prices includes VAT.
Victory Safaris has collaborated with a number of communities in and the delta to provide mekoro tours. The Bayei people came to the Okavango delta hundreds of years ago, bringing with them their traditional mode of transport, the Mokoro. The mokoro is a dug-out canoe made from a large straight tree such as sausage tree or any ebony tree.
These mokoro trips are led and arranged by the Boro/Morutsha/Ditshipi village guide/polers. The guide/polers will be with you for the duration of your stay in the delta-activities will be mokoro excursions and bush walks. You will bush camp on one of the islands in the delta, there are no one of the islands in the delta. There are no facilities available there, (no flush toilets or shower). Early in the year the water levels in the area are very low until the new floods arrive in July/August. During this summer months you can expect to spend a very limited time on the mekoros, and due to the heat, activities will be limited to the early mornings and late afternoons.
Victory Safaris offers the drive-in mokoro trips as two options: Self Catering and Catered.
- For Self-Catering you will need your own camping equipment and food.
